The 1 thing to do, do when you lack opportunities to grow your business

Nov 16, 2023

How do you keep believing in a project or business growth when there seem to be NO opportunities on the sight? Moreover, Why should you even pursue a goal when the road ahead does not seem open? In today's newsletter, I am talking about one of the most common threats that incredible entrepreneurs and project owners like you, like me, all face. I will share a hint on how to unlock more opportunities for you when you find yourself in that situation. Read to the end.

How much visibility do you have for your business?

When I first asked this question to a client, they didn't know what I meant. So, if you're in the same boat, do not worry.

The visibility you have in a business or project represents the financial revenue forecasts you can see coming in the future.

You can picture it with tangible business files, not just words or promises of contracts by friends (well you know what I'm talking about!).

It is composed of the signed contracts you have in place, with payment terms over months; or the enrollments of clients in subscription payment terms.

It is also not composed of the funds you have received to develop your project, as you should usually refund them back, and a project that receives capital does not mean that it will succeed and sustain in the future.

So, how much visibility do you have in terms of sources of revenue for your business?

  • Is it 0 days? Like you have no current clients, and you're not even sure where and how to find new ones? But your business costs augment?
  • Is it 1 month? A client paid your jumbo service but only for a month and then you have to figure the business operation costs by yourself after this month? (e.g. this was me last year when I gained a speaking gig for a month, in a one-time payment, and then did not have clients for weeks)
  • Is it a year? Do you have recurring clients that come and stay in extended contracts or an online subscription model?

So do this little exercise and ask yourself what is your current business or project visibility. Answer me by replying directly to this email.

If your current business revenue visibility is less than 3 months, it is normal that you'd feel worried about your business or project, like some of my clients.

Especially if you do not even know where and how to find these opportunities.

Here is what some clients have shared with me lately about having no visibility at all and no opportunities on the sight:

"No jobs are coming from nowhere, and this has been the case for several weeks now.

"I have no visibility on sources of leads in the next months, and honestly it scares me.

"I believe few projects can be made available in my industry now.

Can you relate to one of these? It is a common threat to business growth that you should expect when you decide to grow your business or project.

But how do you quickly get out of this situation when you feel like you've tried everything and still no opportunities can be made seen?

I'm glad you asked!

Many people will tell you to be a go-getter to generate sales and business opportunities. They'd tell you to go knock on doors blindly, and desperately, to get the opportunities you want.

While I am a strong advocate for being a go-getter, my number 1 solution lies in the "You attract who you are".

Not another abstract word solution to real-life business problems, you'll say.

Ahem, I get you! Let me explain a bit.

Before tackling the issue of limited opportunities in your business, it is crucial for you to thoroughly understand the clients you desire to serve.

How? You should conduct an audit of past clients in your industry to clarify your niche and any emerging trends or themes that come out from their discussions with you.

I experienced the benefits of this just last week. It had been months since I did my client avatar audit, and after doing it last week, incredible results happened:

  • One big sale in a matter of few days occurred. After finishing my client audit, I reached out to a person who needed exactly my service, and in 3 days, they signed up with me.
  • An increase in my website views. Right after clarifying my niche, I reviewed my website messaging with the exact themes, trends, and words that my clients told me they were struggling with, and I was surprised by the increase in views and conversions on my website after doing it!

So, that's my N.1 thing when it seems like no opportunities are coming your way.

You need to do an internal audit of past clients and past prospects. If you are just getting started, do an audit about past people whom you have served freely and get them talking. You just listen, analyze, document. That information is golden information to help you find your ways directly to your true niche fast.

This Friday, I will share free tools to help you audit and document your niche so that you no longer need to knock on doors desperately for clients!

You will start to attract them without much work.
